CEAR sensitize nkaya community

Blantyre, June 12:  East African Railways (CEAR) in conjunction with Mota-Engil have sensitized communities at Nkaya in Balaka against theft and vandalism of railway materials with the on-going project of rehabilitating Nkaya Station.

Central East African Railways - CEAR says it has moved 119,886 metric tonnes of goods from January to June 2016. This means that CEAR has improved compared to the same period last year which was at 75, 278 metric tonnes.


Mwamadi further said the CEAR has also developed its technical capacity to deal with rain related issues which negatively affected the pass ability of the line last year.


“The cargo that has been moved this year includes sugar, diesel, fertilizer and general cargo. Projections are that the targets will be achieved as CEAR expects to move a lot of pigeon peas, sugar and maize,” explained Mwamadi.
